The
death of Colin Hotham, aged 94, on June 13th 2020 was a great
loss to the Village.
Born
in Hull, he returned to the area to live in Swanland in the1980s
after a distinguished career in the Land Registry.
He was the first chairman of the Swanland Village Association
and worked hard for it for many years.
He
could often be seen working either by the pond (or in it !) with
the gardening group.
The daffodils on Greenstiles Lane and the 30,000 crocuses planted
round the village owe a lot to Colin. He even invented a special
tool to plant the crocuses!
From
2002 to 2007 he was Chairman of the Parish Council, a period which
saw the old village school transformed into the Village Hall.
His
enormous amount of work led to its opening in 2005,since when
it has been very successful.
The Village Hall is part of his legacy to the Village and we are
grateful for all he did. |
